Night sweats is a disease name in Chinese medicine. It is a symptom characterized by abnormal sweating after falling asleep and stopping sweating after waking up. "Thief" means stealing. The ancient doctors used thieves to sneak in at night to describe the disease syndrome, that is, whenever people fall asleep or just close their eyes and fall asleep, sweat secretly leaks out like thieves.
Some patients with night sweats will sweat as soon as they fall asleep, some will sweat until midnight, and some will sweat as soon as they close their eyes. The amount of sweat produced varies greatly.
Etiology and pathogenesis
1. Deficiency of kidney yin: deficiency leads to yang, deficiency and heat endogenous, yin qi is empty, yin qi is emptied, and yin qi is emptied, and qi is trapped in yin when sleeping. Sweat if you are forced to leak out. When awakening, the qi is solid on the surface, the mysterious palace is closed and sweat stops the yin.
According to the clinical manifestations of night sweats, patients can be divided into three types: light, medium and heavy.
Light night sweats
Most patients with mild night sweats have fallen asleep deeply, or sweat easily at 5 o'clock in the morning or 1 to 2 hours before awakening, and sweat less, and only feel a little bit of the whole body or some parts of the body after waking up Sweat, no sweat is released again after waking up. Generally, there is no discomfort.
Medium night sweats
Most patients with medium-sized night sweats can release their sweat soon after falling asleep and even soak their sleepwear. They will stop sweating after waking up. After wiping the body sweat, they will stop sweating when they fall asleep. With this type of night sweats, the patient often has a sensation of heat and sweat, and sometimes a feeling of dry mouth and throat after waking up.
Heavy night sweats
Patients with heavy night sweats can easily release their sweat. If you change the sleepwear several times overnight, you cannot sleep well. Some patients with severe symptoms can make the bedding soak. When the bedding is thin or when you use a mat, sweat can print sweat marks on the bedboard. These patients are often accompanied by a noticeable sensation of heat and irritability, dry mouth and tongue after sweating, and cold water. Usually, it may be accompanied by low-grade fever or hot flashes, five upset fever, zygomatic redness, dizziness, weight loss, fatigue, dark urine, low urine output, and dry stool.
Light and medium night sweats will not cause too much damage to the body, but patients with heavy night sweats will often worsen the condition over time and develop into "disorders", which seriously threatens the health and life safety of the patient.
